Hot of the press!

Students from Room One visited the Waikato Times earlier this week as part of their current newspaper study. They learned how the newspaper is created each day following the process from reseaching, reporting and editing right through to printing and distribution. After spending the morning at the paper, Room 1 paid a visit to their big city pen pals at Pukete School. Everyone enjoyed meeting their pen pals for the first time and then spending the afternoon playing soccer, making and enjoying a yummy lunch and completing some technology challenges. Room 1 students would like to thank the parents who provided transport on the day.

Book Week 2010

It's time to get creative!

Once again, it’s time to use your imaginations and create a costume for book character day on Wednesday 2 June. Have a search around the house for things that you could turn into an amazing costume. All friends of the school are welcome to come along and enjoy the book week assembly at 9.20 am, read a favourite book to a small group of children and stay for morning tea. You can also purchase a book for the school if you would like to! Book Week is a little early than usual this year because next term is looking very busy with the jubilee, ski trip, social and the build up to the rowing world champs!

Through fallen leaves I pick my way…

Autumn leaves are made for fun!

We are fortunate to have some fantastic trees at our school. Not only do they provide welcome shade in summer but they drop thousands of leaves which provide endless fun when you make a huge pile and jump right in! We won’t mention the blocked drains and gutters!

When the leaves are all down we will have a rake day and make a HUGE lunchtime pile before we cart them away. No wonder that autumn is one of our favourite seasons!

Sailing Away!

Setting sail for adventure

Lake Karapiro will soon be the centre of attention for the upcoming rowing world championships but in the meantime our students are making the most of the fantastic aquatic playground in our backyard. Sailing and kayaking are activities that now make up part of our school’s physical education programme. All senior students spend sessions on the lake developing practical craft handling skills and exploring this important part of our environment. The board of trustees use the government’s new ‘Kiwisport’ funding to minimise the cost to our students and we work closely with Project Energize, The Boatshed Kayaks and the Cambridge Sailing Club to provide equipment and instructors. An added bonus for our students is watching the New Zealand rowing team hard at work as we explore the lake

ANZAC

Emma and Olivia share at our ANZAC assembly

All classes have done a great job with their ANZAC day studies. We have learned a lot about the meaning of ANZAC Day and the terrible cost of war. All students have participated in a range of activities including an inquiry learning study, wreath making, baking ANZAC biscuits, a special assembly and listening to guest speakers.
