Working Bee

Mulch movers, Connor, Quinn and Blake!

Thank you to everyone who came along to help out at our annual working bee! We had a huge turnout of students and parents with many hands making light work of the clean up. It is great to have the school looking spic and span, ready for next months jubilee celebrations.

I can hear music…sweet, sweet music!

Blake, Ava and Charlotte practise guitar.

Here at Karapiro School we have a great many budding musicians working hard on their skills. We have regular singing lessons and present a musical production at the end of each year. From time to time we also train choirs for events such as the World Vision Kids for kids concert. All of our senior students learn to read and play music using the recorder as a friendly introductory instrument and the really enthusiatic can take up optional guitar and keyboard lessons right here. We certainly are a harmonious school!

Maths Week

Jessica problem solving.

This week is maths week! All classes have been working on a range of maths problems, challenges, games and activities to celebrate the week. We have school wide activities such as an estimate the jellybeans competition and a maths assembly and dress up day, along with daily challenges. On Monday 23rd August, we will be having a parents meeting to continue to share ideas in how you can help your child enjoy even greater success in maths. The session will run from 3.10 pm until 4.10pm and will be repeated from 7 pm until 8 pm on the same day. We hope to see you there!

Living Legends

Sam works on his digital story.

A major learning activity for this term is our ‘living legends’ study. Each student has chosen an older person who is significant in their life and has used research skills to gather a range of information about their person. Our students then tell the ‘digital story’ of their person through photographs, documents, music, art and biography. This learning has been particularly rewarding for our students and some wonderful, often previously untold, family stories are being uncovered.

The living legends study is a fantastic build up to our school jubilee and supports the aims of the social studies curriculum in helping students to make connections with and celebrate the past.
