Cathy Smith

Cathy teaches year 2, 3 and 4 students and leads Maori, science, music, dance and drama at Karapiro.

Cathy works hard to ensure that each student receives a targeted learning programme that meets their needs across the curriculum. She has a passion for teaching maths, literacy and art. Cathy encourages children to take responsibilty for their own learning through goal setting and self assessment and encourages parents to be fully involved in their child’s learning.

On a personal note Cathy has three teenage children, the oldest in his first year of teaching at Waikato University. Her  interests include spending time with family and friends, travel, photography, art and film.

Cathy’s classroom features a resident Indian Ringneck parrot called Einstein and two frogs called Hippy and Hoppy. Room Two is an ‘oarsome’ place in which to learn, have fun and build frienships. We hope that you have the opportunity to visit soon!
