Creating a Native Area

We are the kaitiaki of our whenua

Our Native Area project has been a labour of love, transforming an unused space into a thriving native bush area. It will become a place where native birds and insects thrive, providing a beautiful screen from the road and an abundance of environmental education opportunities. By creating this space, we're not only enhancing our school grounds but also fulfilling our role as Kaitiaki (guardians) of our whenua (land).

Our tamariki are actively involved in the Native Area, learning about the importance of environmental stewardship and the rich biodiversity of our local area.

Karāpiro School is committed to environmental protection and sustainability. We believe that by educating our tamariki about the importance of the natural world, we're inspiring them to become responsible citizens and environmental advocates.

Our Native Area is just one example of our commitment to Kaitiakitanga. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainability throughout our school.
