The values that set us apart

At Karāpiro School, we’re guided by four key values that underpin everything we do. They shape our teaching, our learning, and our relationships with each other. These values are Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, Rangatiratanga, and Kaitiakitanga.

Manaakitanga:
nurturing kindness

Kotahitanga:
Power within unity

Rangatiratanga:
empowering students

At the heart of our teaching is the belief that every child can achieve. We empower our tamariki to take ownership of their learning, to set goals and to strive for excellence. We encourage them to think critically, to solve problems and to take risks. We believe that every child has something unique to offer, and we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all our learners can shine.

Kaitiakitanga:
guardians of our future

As kaitiaki, we’re committed to preserving the unique natural environment that surrounds our school. We teach our tamariki to respect the land, the water and the creatures that live within it. We believe that it’s our responsibility to protect this beautiful place for future generations.

Manaakitanga in action

We show manaakitanga by creating a warm and welcoming environment for all – tamariki, whānau, staff and our community.

Kotahitanga in action

At our kura, we work closely with each other and our whānau to create a strong and supportive learning community.

Rangatiratanga in action

We encourage our tamariki to take ownership of their learning.

Learning for life

At Karāpiro School, we believe that education is more than just academic achievement. We want our tamariki to leave our kura with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life. We teach them to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and communicators. We encourage them to be kind, compassionate and respectful members of their community.
